Hitler and Nazis had their own spaces
of love
Love surrounds us and we can’t avoid it. Love surrounds even
those who deny it, or those whose hands are stained with the
worst crimes. It penetrates and exists where we least expect it.
See the Nazi case. Nazis couldn’t help having their own private
spaces of love – family, spouses, lovers… And they loved power,
exhibition, and the ideas they shielded.
See the Hitler example. Did the fact that he missed the love of
his father contribute decisively to his paranoia? Did he miss
the true physical love of women? Maybe. But many women loved
Hitler, and he knew and loved it, and courted some of them,
though in a dubious way (he involved himself in an unclear love
with his niece, and in another rather unclear love with Eva
Braun, and some more...)
And yet more openly didn’t Hitler love his ideas, and his
political career? Hitler loved the German motherland, and power,
and to tell dirty jokes; he loved making grandiose speeches, and
to feel the irrational roaring of the German public, and the
military music, and to denigrate Jews.
Were true love - the love of wisdom, the brotherly love and
others - missing in his life? Absolutely. But we can’t say that
love was absent in his life. Perversely, love nourished many of
his acts.
