Love vs Human conflicts, crimes, terrorism wars and other wrongs
Conflicts spread worldwide. Crimes, terrorism and wars are a
constant in our present societies. In a sense, we live close to
apocalypse. Hence the numerous and inflated appeals to love and
to the good human side as a way of solving our wrongs…
But these are largely illusory appeals. They may be sincere, but
the ground in which they fall is unable to produce the desired
fruits.
The largely unfertile ground is, obviously, men themselves, and
the causes of the infertility various and profound. They are
undoubtedly partly economic, as many like to point out: there
are too many miserable people in our world.
But the problem is deeply cultural, also. Even in the most
developed societies men persist in believing greatly in their
reasons, in their prides and indignations, in their animal
feelings, in their country, in
their gods and ideas. Education and society keep on feeding
these vices, instead of opposing them. Stuart Mill stated it,
more then a century ago, in his Autobiography: there will
be no significant mankind evolution without a radical change in
the fundamentals of our thinking.
We remain captives of our animal judgement of life. Men take
themselves too seriously, and are truly incapable of questioning
their reasons, ideas, pretensions and hates. And without humble
and tolerant minds, we will always be ready to hate, to be
regimented, to kill and to feed wars and conflicts. And the
callings to love will be of meagre use.
